Step 2: Plan. Create a wireless network and check network layout

Once you have created a diagram, start planning your wireless network and check the layout using the IEC 62591 WirelessHART System Engineering Guide recommended practices.

  1. Plan your wireless network by dragging placeholder devices that represent wireless devices, WirelessHART adapters, or a gateway to your diagram.
Note: Each wireless network can only have one gateway. However, you may have multiple wireless networks on a single diagram.
  2. As you drag devices on your diagram, the AMS Wireless SNAP-ON application allows you to identify a critical output device and enter key data, such as device tag, mounting height, or planned update rate.
  3. You can use the network design parameters in the Parameters pane to change the average density (range) above and below the line of sight. Individual devices can also be configured to change their range to account for walls, machinery, or other obstructions.
  4. Check network layout to verify if your wireless network meets recommended practices. Unmet recommended practices are highlighted in the Parameters pane and the effective range of the corresponding device is highlighted with a red circle. Add wireless devices in these indicated areas to fortify the network and help meet recommended practices.
